Amethyst could also be considered as mourning. There's a small oval brooch around which there are purple grapes and green leaves as mourning symbols as well as the line of artificial amethyst stones with the picture of my great-grandfather inside the brooch. He died young at the age of 28 years from tuberculosis in 1914.
But amethysts are beautiful gemstones. My mother is lucky to have it as a birthstone.
