No, it is believed Princess Diana wore her family's diamond necklace and diamond/pearl earrings. See the comparision between the first link and the next one (Spencer family diamond necklace and pearl/diamond drop pendants and all-diamond drop pendants).
1st Link shows Diana wearing both the diamond necklace & Pearl Drop Pendant and Pearl/diamond earrings.

2nd Link shows the Spencer family diamond necklace with three Pearl Drops and two all-diamond drop pendants.

Diana appeared to wear two pearl drops as earrings and wear the diamond necklace with one other pearl drop pendant.
As for 40 years since Lady Diana Spencer's first public appearance, you are right we should put on a special something to celebrate that fact on this board in September.
