11F morning Posted by Jason Western PA on March 18, 2026, 8:25 pm Well, we had an 11F degree morning today. All palms were open. I was able to have Jen tarp up the smaller ones since I was on storm work all week. I made it home tonight to look and the big windmill. It looks ok I think. Luckily it was only today. Warmer days to come.

Still a z8a low and to be expected. After those storms blew thru here it snowed almost 2 inches. That melted a couple of days ago. Finally changing here. I'm expecting 42* this morning and a sunny 65* for the high. the next 3 days : 71/47 76/56 80/59 Dogwoods are finally blooming and hopefully Magnolia trees are blooming around the end of April. Good for the soul. Have a great weekend.

This is last hooray of winter I hope, I I guess that’s what you call dogwood winner because all the dogwood are blooming and red buds and all I’ve about everything I didn’t look around though I’ve got everything blooming out front and it didn’t seem to hurt anything. The only thing it hurt it all was in my back was the hydrangea macrophylla it burnt the foliage almost all of them of course they will come back. The Hostas were mostly not totally unfurled leaves, so they are good. Other than that my Jasmine still blooming my lady Banks. Rose is coming out, so I think spring is totally here to stay. I hope it is there too.

Your temp probably would've dipped to zero. Snow, can fall, here, into April. Detroit's average for April is one inch. Such late snow usually doesn't last, though, because of an increase in sun angle, and increased daylength. Today, at 42 degrees N latitude (Detroit), dusk arrives around 7:40 p.m., and daylength will continue getting longer, until the first day of summer. Around that time, dusk will arrive around 9:30 p.m. Believe it or not, daylength in summer, lessens, the closer you are to the equator, but increases the closer you are to the North Pole, where daylength is a full 24 hrs, on the first day of summer. All has to do with the tilt of Earth, and which hemisphere is receiving the most direct rays from the sun, on the first days of summer and winter. Your palms may do alright. I think others on this board's palms have seen such temps, unprotected, and lived. Some have reported frond loss, or having to trunk cut. I know it could be disappointing though if any damage shows after the palms had been protected, all winter, with no damage, when the protection was removed. I knew that March (April, too) has roller coaster temps, with wide swings. My palms are still covered, for a little longer.
