I always look forward to Feb(last winter month) as the days start getting longer rapidly and the sun angle improves..snow usually melts quicker to if its not to cold and we get some sun. After a very warm fall winter started here right after Thanksgiving and I was already tired of it in December!

The worst really started Jan.23rd 2026 About 300,000 people lost power at one time in the state-wide Ice Storm. I was one of the lucky ones to keep my power HOWEVER, a few days ago my town and county lost water because of massive leaks and it was hard to find them here in the high country. If anyone had water they had to boil it. That was another week of no schools and frustration but since I wont drink tap water anywhere, I did ok. Water returned yesterday and the temp was 60*. I still found some ice in my yard today from 2 weeks ago. I'm over winter. Had a couple of friends already wanting me to go in on a duplex in the deep south. They were hit hard with no electricity or water for days and I understand but it was 34* in Miami last week, snowed in Tampa and water lines busted in North Florida. No one has mentioned Yuma AZ yet It would have to be SW to get me too move. I told them just rent a place in winter for 2 or 3 months, seems safer that way Good to hear from you Jim.

I'd put money down that we both will see drought-like conditions like we normally do. Its around Aug-Sept-Oct (and I hate to admit it) we are hoping for a hurricane to push that gulf moisture further north. Those Bermuda highs can sure be a pain most years. Plant more Agave and Yucca, mi amigo * not too bad as seen currently but SC is looking dry in over half the state.

Re: dry Posted by JimHardy on February 13, 2026, 8:06 am, in reply to "dry" It is bone dry and dusty here,if we dont have a very wet spring there are going to be serious problems in the corn belt etc. Esp if we have a hot summer which is long overdue here..... I have heard that water is disappearing out of the Mississippi and the levels are quite low...it may be that all the draining of aquifers and possibly a rift opening up in the area of the New Madrid fault (or both) is causing this and there is nothing that humans can do about it.
