In&Out Palms Posted by Rob z7 TN on September 15, 2025, 4:28 pm Lᴇʙᴀɴᴏɴ, Tᴇɴɴᴇssᴇᴇ ᴏꜰꜰ I⁻40 @ S.Hᴀʀᴛᴍᴀɴ Pᴡᴋʏ In and Out Burgers are spreading across Tennessee. They normally plant their trade mark crossed palms out front. This is 75 miles away from me. At nearly every In-N-Out location, you'll spot a pair of crossed palm trees, deliberately planted and associated with the chain since 1972. Nearly all restaurants have them. We are getting two in my area, One in Crossville and Cookeville. I'll be watching these Sabal Palmettos. They should be OK in Nashville, AJ's Murfreesboro and Kevins Cleveland. I wish they would plant Trachycarpus in my area instead. Has anyone ever tried In&Out burgers? They say they are the best in the land. Lots of former California families living in Tennessee now (over a million) and they can't wait, claiming that's all they miss but California really is the most diverse and beautiful state in the USA. I'll try to post some pics soon. We have been in a regional drought all summer. We got nourshing rain last week and the first rains since May 2025. Temps have been very warm and looks like another 2 weeks of no rain in the forecast. Hope everyone is doing well. Sleeping a lot here but Im alive MAY 2025 before the drought set in (up and coming #4) Bitter Orange Citrus is fruiting in the Eastern Highlands.

I'm in Gettysbrug this week for work. Lots of crape myrtle here. I saw some at the court house that are up to the phone cables on the poles.

The crapes haven't done well in the drought Im trying to come out of. The palms and citrus have done well but if I had been able to water them, they would have done better. Be safe out there Jason btw - Can't wait for In&Out to open. I've heard Culvers has the best hamburgers but never seen them in Tennessee. We have had What-a-Burger here years ago but they went out of business now they are opening back up again. Back Yard Burger restaurants are very good.

Almost turned on the heat last week. 58* was chilly lol I love watermelon and eat it several times a week. A deli nearby sells a large cup for just over a dollar and I love their cantaloupe too. I need to cut the melon I bought for labor day before it loses its flavor. Enjoy those melons Jim. They are jammed packed with vitamins and antioxidants.

Im worried about Cookeville and Crossville (I live in between those cities) but they are like me, bottom of z7a. Someone said they do 'heat pot' palms in mountainous areas, that could help. Thanks

It’s pretty cool that In and Out plants those at their restaurants. I’ve never had their burgers but would like to try them. I do love a good burger 😋. It looks like the Pink Chiffon double blooming variety. Mine did great in early summer but the drought stopped almost all blooming, we were without rain most of May and none in June, July or August. I've been concerned about forest fires but we have been sparred. Things are beginning to bloom again. We started getting a shower here and there since September began and actually had a 5 minute downpour about 2 hours ago. I'll take it. According to the In&Out website and especially those hoping to see one near them, the In-N-Out Burger limits restaurant locations to be within 300 miles of a meat processing facility to maintain quality standards, as they do not freeze their meat. The company is expanding into Tennessee and will eventually build a distribution center there, but in the interim, new locations will be served from their Lancaster, Texas facility. This 300-mile radius from a processing center is the primary constraint on their expansion and they are firm on that. The new processing plant in Tennessee is about 30 miles SW of Nashville and that wont reach the Chicagoland area. Hope for a processing center in Kentucky or Missouri and its possible one day. Jack-in-the-Box and Whataburger closed down in Tennessee years ago but now they both are back and doing great I hear. Id like to try the Whataburger fish. The nearest one to me is 90 miles down where AJ lives. They had one 20 miles away decades ago so they might return here. Now that I've made you hungry, find you some Kotlet Schabowy & Gołąbki, I crave that stuff Thanks friend

Looks like February here before I can get a double double haha Yeah, your close to Lancaster, Texas. They have already said N Mississippi and Memphis getting some stores. We have been in a terrible drought. The soils here are like a sponge and a week without rain can turn bad quickly if you cant water. I haven't seen any snakes except a roadkill and Moccasins aren't generally seen here but rattlers and copperheads are the ones to watch for. There have been a few reports of snake bites in the state. Alabama is the snakiest state in the USA I've heard Do you have the Coral snake? I can never remember the color code from the non poisonous look-a-like. Thanks Barry

I love those In&Out crossed palms too but keeping an eye on those about 30 miles east of Nashville (in the post) It's a z7b but still iffy for North-Central Tennessee. I hope they survive. Trachycarpus would have been a better choice than Sabal Palmetto. AJ lives about 35 miles south of there and his yard sabal palmetto looks great and Kevin's also (east of Chattanooga) Appreciate your reply amico.
