In My Garden Today

Some of you may remember, that I posted some pics of my black bamboo going to seed, last year. Generally, they say, when bamboo goes to seed, it dies. So, all spring, I have been looking for bamboo seedlings, on the ground, expecting to pot up some to grow on. Now, what is this? Re-growth from the roots?
The tops are all dead. I thought the "old" plants were dead. Maybe, it's the "last hurrah":
The JAPANESE SNOWBELL, Styrax japonica 'Pink Chimes', is blooming. Recently, I posted a pic of the Carolina Silverbell, another Southern Snowbell type, when it was blooming, in spring..
Below are some plants I got from Diggin' Dog Nursery. Pictured below are: Azara microphylla variegata, Andromeda polifolia 'Blue Ice', Centranthus ruber 'Pretty Betsy', Jasminum stephanense, and a Parahebe catarractae
Below are some plants I got from Dancin' Oaks Nursery. Pictured are: a Beesia calthifolia, a Fremontodendron californica 'Taylor Hardy', and a solid green Azara microphylla...

Alvin, that so-called flowering fern is really pretty and unusual. The Japanese snow bell is a new one for me. I do like it. The dwarf goatsbeard is gorgeous. The tropical star apple foliage is pretty. I bet when it grows up some gorgeous plant in the garden. Good luck with all your new additions. Another hot and dry day here although there’s a chance of thunderstorm this evening some severe they say. It’s really dry here right now but there’s a chance of rain about every day for the next 10 days so you know summer pop-up shower, I hope we get some high watered some yesterday in the back early
Thanks, Fred. The flowering fern is supposedly hardy down to z6, but since they are planted in a shallow spot, that might get soggy, in winter, I'll likely dig the tubers and store them, over the winter. The Japanese Snowbell is the Asian counterpart to the Southern/American Snowbell. both are of the Styrax genus. The hot heatwave has broken, here, but will remain very warm, for some time to come. I welcome the rain I have been getting, because I know how dry it can get here, later in the summer. I love, and appreciate the "free water", too.
