Mimosas are very where and a few yard pics.. Posted by Tom in PA on June 10, 2025, 9:51 pm My mimosa has had many babies this year. I’ve found many around the yard. Could as many as 30! Rob I hope you see this. This is from the one you sent me years ago. It’s grown into a beautiful tree. Here it is. One of the baby mimosas. This hardy cactus from Etsy has done very well. This made plant another hardy prickly pear nearby. Bigleaf Ashei Magnolia Victoria Southern Magnolia This is a very hardy Sabal Minor I got years ago from Gerry’s Jungle. I think it’s Bald Head Island variety. Lastly here is my Longleaf Pine. Robins are nesting in it this summer. Thanks for looking!

Im so glad your mimosas lived. My Grandparents could never get one to live in the Canton-Akron area. They are blooming here and I noticed them at least a week ago. Some have a deeper pink and those are my favorite. I hope you get some nice blooms. Tom I love your "cucumber magnolia" that's what they call it in the lower Appalachians (Big Leaf Mag) I still don't have one and I love them. That Victorian Magnolia is really really nice and pruning limbs wont hurt a magnolia as they grow taller if you want to keep it off your house (back side). I kept my 'Little Gem' Southern Magnolia Grandiflora pruned for years (lower branches) till I had a good 5' clearance for a lawnmower and it looks great today but I dont live there anymore. Tom that Bald Head Island Sabal Minor is awesome. It looks great and I have always had luck with PDN plants but they are so small in the beginning. Your Minor has done great and grown well. That Longleaf Pine is the bomb, wow. Love that tree. You dont see them in nature until you get into central Alabama and Georgia and central Mississippi then all along the gulf coast to about Tampa, eastward to the Atlantic, up through coastal areas of the Carolinas and possibly Virginia and maybe to Mark in Southern Maryland. I do like them but very invasive. I have never planted one. Rodents like to eat their seed! Love your long leaf pine near your home. Magnolia ashei is nice. It is less hardy than macrophylla, I think. Bloom look just like macrophylla. Shame the bloom forest last but s few days . Bloom is beautiful. All your plants look great! Rob, you should consider Ashei variety of Bigleaf magnolia. They have that same look with the huge leaves but the tree grows much shorter. I see many southern magnolias here now but have never seen a Longleaf Pine. If only local garden centers knew how hardy they are. That Baldhead island Sabal is seeding for the first time ever which is exciting. It should produce some hardy seedlings. The mimosa is truly beautiful and thanks again for sending it up here. We are probably a couple weeks away from blooms up here. I can’t wait until that happens! Mimosas in bloom look even more tropical. Grazie amico!

Fred, I think you are correct about the hardiness of Ashei. It is rated as zone 6 hardy but Macrophylla is rated I think is zone 5. I also wish they bloomed longer. Mimosas do seed like crazy! Seems like every day I find a new volunteer somewhere😂. Thanks Fred!
