Arid plant sunburn : Fred Posted by Rob N TN on January 13, 2025, 3:23 pm How is the most effective way to grow arid plants in the south. I've tried arid beds and for most they do well in southern summers but I do have some that suffer from sunburn. It's a paradox that these plants that live in the far south-west could have trouble in full sun. I understand the affects of cold and moisture but sunburn keeps some of my plants potted. Been wanting to ask this for sometime, thanks Fred.

Do you acclimatize the potted plants gradually into full sun? If you don't, that is about all I can think of. I like to make sure drainage is good. I really don't know why this is happening there unless it is the higher elevation??? I don't think I have been much help, sorry. If it is too hot in afternoon sun, perhaps plant in shade of a rock to lessen effects of hot afternoon sun.I. can't really think of anything else. Maybe someone else might have a better answer.

Officially it's a borderline Humid Subtropical - Oceanic (Do) Climate of the Trewartha system. That could explain many questions Ive had living here through the years.
