Cold 2 weeks ahead Posted by Nick z7b Md on January 6, 2025, 4:01 pm I've got 9 palms,3 waggies and 6 fortune in ground 2-4ft for 2/3 years. They do not have supplemental heat but have heavy mulch, spear covers,copper fungicide sprayed, sprayed with wilt stop, caged and frost covers on. The temp is only going to be in the low 30s during the day and teens and twentys at night for around 2 weeks.Some might say that's zone 8b temperatures. I don't think so.if some live through this, I'll be surprised .The few inches of snow might keep the roots warmer.

Then 2-3 inches of snow and below 32* another 48 hours. I dont think any z8a besides Juneau, Alaska (?) has long enduring temps below 32* for long periods. The Amish here don't use electricity. The use lots of hay and straw atop a covered garbage can or small structure. There are many ways to fight off this cold but its harder when when they are 10' tall. Hope you do well, you should. I'm just glad those reports of 20 to 40 below zero temps didn't materialize from those awful weather reports a week or so ago. Should be a law against weather misinformation
