I've seen many examples of protection through the years and most geared to local climate necessities. One in particular is a Tennessee growers design that he has freely shared here a few times and is easier to set-up. An upside down plastic garbage can, a Teepee, Blue barrels, sleeping bags under a tarp dressing and even a trip to Goodwill for blankets and many other schemes can work but I do like the design of the Island Wide Palm Company. I wish them much success. Thanks for showing their creation. btw I will send out seed tomorrow.

I like these better for when the palms get bigger .I've wanted to plant some Palms in the front of my house but wanted something nice looking to cover them with when they got bigger in the winter so I never did it. I like these .They look nice enough for a front yard application .I'm going to plant some Trachs now in the front yard this spring and use these when they get bigger.

I am still kind of biased toward my tube because you don't need the custom cover and it goes on/off easier. Round also doesn't catch wind much. Both require a bit of preparation but mine once you build it you are done. That Island wide one has to be built and disassembled every year which might be better if you want to make it smaller to store. ?t=49

Tomato cages make good frames for smaller plants. I dont know how small of a hoop I could make with 1/2or 3/4 in. grey, electrical pvc pipe? It's more flexible than pvc water pipe. Maybe using heat they could be bent smaller? In fact I was even thinking how a round enclosure could be made and a window could be etched on the side and a light on top to make it look like a Lighthouse ? I am also thinking of useing Phragmites Australia , a 16ft tall marsh reed. I have hundreds of acres behind my house of them They are invasive and Duck Hunters cut them to use it to cover their Duck Blinds. It could be used on the tree covers to look like a clump of ornamental grass for the winter? I'm sure there's more ideas to decorate them to make them look different .
