Hardy succulents Posted by Fred Sc on December 14, 2024, 9:41 am Here are succulents all rated zone 9 or 10: Anacampseros, , Sedeveria, pachyveria , Echeveria and more. I have grown these for years in my front xeriscspe in a zone 8a with no protection at all and pretty much neglected even in coldest Arctic years. Over the years I bought the starts at HD or Lowe’s as non hardy houseplants. A master Gardner said no way they would live in ground here, lol. They told me the same about some of my Agaves. I do have Aloe saponaria in ground for many years.Aloe aristata is very hardy , as is a couple more but I never ever planted them. I have the Aloe on side of house out of xeriscspe where it was originally invasive . It was spreading Willy -nilly all over the place, so I moved it. Nice to see higher zone plants do good for you. I would think z8a is a bad year for you and like many others here, you often reach higher zones while only slipping a night or two most years. Nice plants.

Either that, or you could take a part time job, in the houseplant section of one of these stores, an encourage buyers to try growing these plants, in their yards. Lots of folks don't know about exotic gardening.

I talked to a college educated person once in Kentucky that was supposedly native plant expert that told me there were no native cacti to Kentucky! I informed him of Opuntia humifusca , native to most of the state! I don’t think he believed me , lol.
