While looking for cords, outlet cover caps, etc today I found about 6 strands of lights but I already bought 6 or 7 new strands already. Not sure if I should use the old ones. (2) I found 2 new thermocubes never opened, would it be safe to depend on them if used? It's range is 20* to 30*. (on at 20* / off at 30*) My first time ever using them was a disaster because it didn't work and I actually lost a nice palm in a bad winter event. Just thinking if I should buy a new one. I don't normally use thermocubes since I'm home more often than not but this December plans are different for several weeks. Does anyone trim off lower palm petioles for a better and easier wrap? My Waggy palm has fronds all the way to ground level and they are green but I'd like to remove 2 or 3 if it wouldn't hurt it Thanks for any replies. still in drought mode here and exceptionally harsh southward into Northern Alabama way.

I trimmed several lower fronds off my Trachy so ZI could use my back walk.

Yes I always reuse them. Keep in mind to check them and if you have burnt out bulbs it will increase the voltage over the strand making the other burn out faster and faster as more bulbs go out. On Amazon they sell replacement tool and bulb or you can buy new strands. (2) I found 2 new thermocubes never opened, would it be safe to depend on them if used? It's range is 20* to 30*. (on at 20* / off at 30*) Never had a thermocube go out as long as I keep them dry. Test in Freezer first Does anyone trim off lower palm petioles for a better and easier wrap? You could wait later on in winter ro see if the thermocubes are worth keeping. You can always add it to your lights without trouble. A few clipped palm fronds wont hurt that tree. I usually pick up a bunch of sets when they are on clearance. I test thermocubes in the freezer to make sure they are working. I have two that I use and have had them for several years. When wrapping my 2 palms, I wrap the upper half first, then go back and tie up the lower ones. I don't like to cut anything off when I am wrapping them for the winter. Not sure if that's the correct way of doing this, but it has been working for me for several winters.

As luck was on my side, last year's minis were trash, some didn't work at all and some only half lit. Just finished the Waggy and started at the top like you but I snipped off 2 small ground hugging fronds. Thank Kurt, appreciate it.

Did the light check and I can't use them. 2 strings were 100% bad and the others were missing some. I will be using the new ones and replenish in the after Christmas sales. I will test that cube and like you, reluctantly I trimmed off 2 ground hugging petioles. They were small and a tad ratty looking but green. I know that's taboo but it's in a good south planting. I will check that cube in the freezer and reluctantly clipped 2 ratty petioles off. Real ground huggers but they were green. Hoping that walled and southern exposure will be a fair offset.
