In My Garden Today

Believe it or not, the time of year has arrived for a few of the area "early to show fall color" trees to begin showing fall color. The trees that are earliest to show, here, are the honey locust and ash. Portions of these trees are beginning to show color. Not fully colored up, yet, though. October is the month that most area trees color up, and the show goes into November..
Here's a pic of another of my DOUBLE Tuberous Begonias. Somehow, this first bloom is single-flowered...
It's time for HARDY AGERATUM/Mistflower, Eupatorium coelestinum, to bloom. These are great late summer-early fall bloomers. They have a nice blue color, that's welcome, this time of year...
AHHH, It's now time for another fall bloomer to chime in. These bloom with no foliage. Just flowers on tiny stems, sticking out of the ground. This is a type of HARDY CYCLAMEN, known as: Cyclamen hederifolium...
Here are two plants I got from Rare Roots Nursery. They are a HARDY CAROLINA JESSAMINE, Gelsimium sempervirens 'Margarita', and a PENSTEMON 'Husker Red'...

Alvin, the turtlehead flowers are beautiful as is the tuber begonia bloom. I do like the little blue Ageratum. it used to grow below our house in a damp area where I used to live in Kentucky and I always thought it was nice. I always liked the red backed leaves of the hardy begonia. The bloom is nice as well. The hardy Carolina Jessamine will be good. Here we pronounce Jessamine as Jasmine. There is a Jessamine County in Kentucky named after native jessamine there.

Thanks, Fred. Margarita is supposed to be hardier than the regular Carolina Jessamine. I'll see, after I put it in the ground, soon, and see how it does. Ageratum is usually sold as an annual, but this one is a hardy perennial.
