Clivias, unless growing in the ground, seem to like being pot bound. Does the plant stay in that spot year-round? My Clivias spend most of the growing season outdoors, and get watered whenever it rains. Outdoors, conditions are different, than indoors. Humidity levels are higher at night, and the plants are subjected to "real sun", and even if dappled, is stronger than sun coming through a window. In early November, when they come inside, their large pots are very heavy, due the wetter soil. They go under plant lights, and get zero water, until they go back outside, in April. By that time, they are much lighter in weight. I do have a Clivia, that has NEVER bloomed, after years,, but none that fails to bloom, ever year, once they start. I mentioned that I started a Clivia, from a cutting. I potted it last year. I don't know how many years it'll take, before it starts blooming. My other cutting grown plant began blooming after about 3 yrs.

This plant stays out on my screened porch for about 7 or 8 months . I then take into greenhouse snd don’t water hardly or at all for 2 or more months. I then start to water snd put back on its spot in screened porch. Alvin, I posted this picture mostly for your benefit but happy for all to see. I wish zit was hardy in ground. The strapping wide leaves are beautiful even when not in bloom.

That seems to increase chances of getting the plant to rebloom, if you propate it through cuttings. Yeah, unfortunately, they are hardy in the ground, in z9b and up. I wonder though, if it could be winter protected. However, if in the ground, in a lower zone, it might not get the necessary "dry period", (as winters are often wet,, in most of the country) the plant seems to need. Is there a reason for moving the plant from one seemingly indoor place to another, rather than it going directly outside? Clivias are remarkably pest-free, or at least don't seem to get badly affected with any particular insect ,from outdoors, unlike many other plants. Fred, I appreciate you discussing the Clivia, because no one else seems to discuss more than just a handful of subtropical, or tropical plant types.
