Med Fan removal Posted by Fred SC on August 27, 2024, 8:14 am I went to the big Walmart in Simpsonville yesterday and lo and behold, they have remove the two plantings of Mediterranean fan, palms and trachacarpus and replaced it with, of course , crêpe myrtles. I couldn’t believe it. One clump had been damaged during the vortex years ago and come back into a nice clump . It was really pretty and the other one was not damaged during the vortex It was about 10it 12 feet tall. I thought it looked great , so I don’t know why they would do that, but anyway, I was disappointed, I was just wondering what they did with those trees …took them to the dump, I guess . Sad. I took pics once snd posted on the board but I guess that I erased them off phone or I would post a pic showing how nice they were.

If they remove our blue sapphire rostratas, they will be hearing from me. I'm sure those plants go to friends or family anyways. You should report them Fred.

Commercial plantings are usually fairly conservative because they want low maintenance plantings that are basically worry free. Plus, crape myrtles are colorful. You're lucky they didn't replace them with yews.

Yes , each spring they would have to tidy up and remove a few brown fronds, so I can see why the palms were removed. The Trachycarpus in each planting were very healthy and never damaged, wish they would have left them.

Re: Med Fan removal Posted by alex_7b on August 28, 2024, 7:03 pm, in reply to "Med Fan removal " We have a Sonic a couple miles from the house. It had a T.fortunei out front, probably 15 to 18 feet tall. Chainsaw and backhoe pulled it out. It was healthy - no reason for it.

They just built a new truck stop in Clarion 1/2 north of us along I80. I told Jen last night. Why did they plant blue spruce. They will die in a few years and they are ugly.
