Nice fruiting fig Posted by Fred SC on August 22, 2024, 4:41 pm We went to our insurance man’s office today . He has a nice fig . it was loaded with fruit. My fig apparently loved the hot, dry weather we had this summer. It went wild and got huge. I ate a half dozen ripe figs off of it last weekend. There are more forming.

As high as Insurance is today, you deserve a hand full. Figs are thought to be native to western Asia and Asia Minor, and may have originated as early as 5000 BCE. They are believed to be one of the first fruits cultivated by humans, and spread to the Mediterranean region through human migration. By the early 1500s, figs had reached as far north as England and were also being cultivated in China. In 1769, the Spanish brought the first fig trees to California, and missionary fathers planted them from San Diego to Sonoma. They were quickly brought to the east coast and the south. I wish I still had mine but they can get huge in a landscape design. I have a friend that has one in a field.

They should begin to ripen big time in heat of next week. Your variety may be different in that it is fruiting early. This is a very old bush so probably isone of the older varieties

We just found out that my grandson had a 3.6 grade average for over a year and qualifies for a 30 percent discount. He is on our insurance , so good news. He starts classes st zGreenville Tech later this month. He is taking basic classes that will transfer to Clemson. With his good grades he gets classes free. We will have to help we its books etc.

I forgot which one this is. I cut it back every year. I have to be careful because I discovered after one of the severe prunings that I was allergic to the sap. I got photo-sensitive dermatitis on my arms. It alarmed me at first. But I did some research on the internet and learned that others had this problem also. I wish I had planted it in a different location. It exudes a scent, especially in hot weather, that some find objectional. Here it is. The sucker wraps around the corner of the porch and you can't see that part in the photo. I placed the chair in front for scale.: Close up of the fruit:

A French fig that doesn't get very big and is manageable. I took this picture a few days ago. I planted this little Fig tree this summer, 4ft. 17 figs so far. They are very prolific This is a very tasty fig. sweet with some berry notes. if you want to learn about figs, there are 2 very good video sites. Millennial Gardner, from SE NC and Ross Reddi from philly. You can get a world of information from these guys.The most cold hardy Fig tree is the Chicago Hardy,from Mt Etna. The hard part is getting the variety you like.There are many varieties of CH but most places do not catagorise them.
