45* in my area of Tennessee this morning and some pics Posted by Rob N TN on August 21, 2024, 6:26 pm Loving the unusual cool stretch of summer. We hit 73* for a high today and 55* tonight. The 90*s come roaring back for the weekend but even that will be brief as we lean much cooler and below average until fall equinox . We are in a drought and I'm afraid flowering plants will begin to suffer soon. Many flowering bushes and potted plants Here are a few pics from today: Yucca Rostrata blue sapphire, Yucca elata & Dwarf 'pumila' pampas T.princeps x T. waggy - fully hardy Butterfly Magnet Syagrus romanzoffiana in ground, Rio Grande Queen palm. two concrete planters on either side doesn't seem to bother it. Trachycarpus wagnerianus - hardy - Jungle Music sorry for the yard art, never know what my nephew will leave around a palm or plant here. Trachycarous Fortunei Big Mama "Rhapidophyllum hystrix" Needle Palm She has grown so large I cant photo her fully in a pic, 20 feet back So many Big and Small plants that I never got to use this season but I'm hoping 2025 will be much better Thanks

I should have posted more but most have seen everything I grow. Looks like you may have got a shower in your area (?) Are you cooling down some (?) Jim over in Eastern Iowa was expecting a terrible drought this season and while you guys may have had a few moments, Iowa seems to be looking awesome. Your state seems to have really increased in popularity in the past two years. Are you noticing any California license plates (?) I see Oregon and Washington state around here often. The country is in transit Hope your amazing arid gardens are doing well. All my arids are potted up because I never was able to get down to business this year. Keith started a nice yard this year. Generally good moisture this year as opposed to three years of extreme drought in this part of the state before that. In one 12 month period we only had 12" of total precipitation. One of the reasons for starting the arid gardens. Typical late August weather with highs mostly around 80 and lows in upper 50s or 60 and nice full sun. Fortunately no out of state people around other than locals returning home for visits.

Haven't did much this season. I think the NWS long range is still calling for mild temps through Thanksgiving here but cool at night. I'm loving it and no humidity at the moment. Waggy is actuallt T.wagnerianas x T. naintal. sorry for the mislabel. It's been touted as the most hardy trunking palm in the world, time will tell. So far so good. I think Tom in PA and Jim in Iowa are growing it too.

The cool Canadian air has been with us this week with highs in the mid 70s. Like you, it's back up near 90° by this weekend. I love the yuccas and pampas grass. There are lots of nice things in those pictures. I think I see blanket flowers in one of those flower beds. I like them. I have a few things in pots that I had planned to plant this year too. It was just too dry to even attempt new plantings that could not be easily watered this year. Thanks to Tropical Storm Debby, we're just about back on pace for a normal precipitation year currently. I'm sorry you're now facing drought conditions.

They really bring an exotic look all the way into z4 and z5 if not wet. Bananas keep sheltering my palms too much but at least they survive. Thanks. I guess its our turn now to be in the drought. It's close to dry season here with no chance of rain seen in the 7 or 10 day. I am surprised to see several days of 99* coming back quickly. Glad I was able to catch my breath in fall conditions while it lasted. I hate to see it but I'm hoping for a tropical rainmaker from a gulf storm very soon but only if no lives are in danger. I was surprised of the loss of life caused by sea storms Debbie and Beryl. The Atlantic and Gulf are surprisingly quite and void of storms. Thanks David.

It was devastating to hear about it. I see my eye specialist in Murfreesboro next week and maybe I can get off some of this eye medication. I can function without the black out eyewear when outdoors now. We got this friend.
