I was in a local suburb today, although Jane is showing no damage, in my yard, Saucer Mags, in this 'burb, had brown flowers. So, I'm thinking that they were a few degrees colder, than me, possibly due to the urban heat island effect. Nevertheless, the ornamental pears showed no browning, which makes me think, they can take a few degrees of cold, more, than Saucer Mags. Back in the 80s, I remember that the blooms on the Saucer Mag, at the house I grew up in, turned brown, after a low of 22 degrees. This looked like the cold that occurred in the 'burb of Livonia I was in today.
Although, I put a handful of the containerized plants I had begun returning to the yard (I plan to take these out, tomorrow), I did not rush to put them ALL in the garage for a couple days. The ones I put in or left out, was based on the plant's relative hardiness. I have a wide range of containerized plants. Some are temperate, some subtropical, and quite a few, that are tropical.
Here's a partial list of the containerized plants (mostly subtropicals), that were unscathed, in the open yard, at 28 degrees. I am surprised that the meteorologists were warning people to cover their "blooming" plants, due to the pending freeze, as if everything "seemingly tender, like tulips and daffodils", and even potted plants, are EQUALLY hardy. THEY ARE NOT !:
