After -10F, I received foliar damage to some things, but these will recover. I lost a few of my z9 hardy plants, that I already plan on replacing.
You probably saw the pansy pot was encircled with wire. This is to guard them from squirrels, that love digging in pots, or very close to recently planted things. They will uproot smaller plants.
That "pansy-mashing" cat was probably looking for a cool, comfy surface to lay on, in the heat you've been having.
On the subject of cats..I was in my backyard, yesterday, and started hearing mewing noises. Lo and behold, I unzipped my greenhouse entrance, to peek inside. There, I found a stray cat (somehow found a way to slip under the plastic greenhouse sides), nursing two baby kittens. So much for me using my greenhouse for the purpose I put it up (hardening off seedlings, and not a nursery for kittens!), LOL.
Yeah, Daphniphyllum's common name, Redneck Rhody was given this name, because of the foliar resemblance to Rhododendrons.
