In the last 8 days, my area has been under a freeze warning, a tornado warning, a winter weather advisory, two inches of snow and finally ending with temps soaring in the 80*s for several days.
Today we should reach 55* with a low tonight in the upper 30*s then our lows and highs slowly rise to near 80* near the end of the week before a repeat of upper 30* lows and highs in the upper 50* and low 60*, so what does this have to do with your question?
I emptied my garage and basement of all my plants and they are just sitting in the backyard. I wont be able to deal with anything today because due to an eye surgery 2 weeks ago, I having the stitches removed in another city. I will tarp these plants outside later today to keep frost away if we get any but remove it early tomorrow as we begin to warm again. I will be planting a gardenia, 6' tall Furcraea, palms (windmill,Louisianas, sabal palmettos, EE's, agaves and lots of other things.
I just hope I'm not jumping the gun Tom. The ground is warm and many of the flowering trees have already finished up except Dogwood and the upcoming Magnolias.
After I plant those I mentioned, I will likely wrap in frost cloth, cover with a box and then throw a tarp or something over it if I get down to near freezing territory. Some might say, can't you just wait another couple of weeks but after 4 months indoors, it's beginning to get critical. I have begonias, camellias, caladiums, and other type plants in bloom and barely holding on.
I think if you can cover a planting for a short term, you should be ok amico. We have had a deadly spiral near mid-April before but its very rare and I'm taking my chances to more forward.
Tom your plants look good and the Christmas Palm at your mall is amazing. As Ken said once, they are extremely finicky to survive in winter, much like a Coconut palm.
Buona fortuna, Tom.
