That sure is a beautiful palm. I have a small naini tal x waggy and the guy from Texas who sold it too me stated that he thinks this hybrid is the most hardy of any arborescent palm known.
This is what we know about your Nainital:
The Naini Tal palm (a variety of Trachycarpus fortunei) is hardy in USDA zones 7a to 11b, though it can survive in zone 6b with protection. It is considered one of the hardier, faster-growing windmill palms, with some parent trees tolerating temperatures below -7°F (-21.7degree C). However, it can still suffer leaf damage or defoliation in extreme cold, and it is sensitive to wet soil and wind.
A hybrid with Naini Tal could possibly be what we have wished for in the colder zones.
I'd love to hear Jim from Iowa's take on this species. Thanks for showing that palm.
