This is my first time growing Grimes Golden apple. When I was in my late teens, while living at home, I had a Starkspur Dwarf Golden Delicious apple. After two years, from planting, it became a very productive tree, producing many large apples (after manual thinning, of course). I kept it no taller than 7 ft tall, through annual prunings.
Golden Delicious apples are reputed to be a tad larger than Grimes Goldens.
Believe or or not, I now have FIVE dwarf apple varieties, planted over the last two years, on my tiny 41 x 121 ft lot. One is a Red Stayman Winesap. I believe in planting alot of stuff, in my yard, rather densely planted, LOL.
In the above pics, you can see other things growing near to the apples. The dwarf apricot tree, I planted, late last fall, is just about 5 ft away, from the Red June apple. I also have other fruit types, too, including a few that were allowed to get too tall to keep birds and critters away, through netting, etc.
Yeah, it is a tad too warm for rhubarb, in the Deep South. Even up here, it starts going partly dormant, by mid-summer.
