The Alpinia ginger looks like an A. zerumbet. I didn't know they are hardy. i have one in a container, for a number of years. It produces an odd-looking flower, too.
Unfortunately, area raccoons (that don't mind getting into the water), do not allow me to keep fish in my backyard pond. They don't allow me to have sunken water lilies, or other aquatic plants, either. Love to muddy the water. Believe it or not, raccoons will eat such plants, as easily as they will the fish. Quite the voracious critters, they are.
