This plant returning is a surprise. This plant is supposed to be a dessert xeric. Yet, it survived in my garden, with no protection from winter moisture. The plant is a NEW MEXICO PRIVET, Forestiera neomexicana 'Silver Satin'. Anybody else growing this xeric plant in their garden?

Here is another Asian native BLE growing in my Michigan garden. It is a Helwingia japonica, and it is forming new leaves. What makes this plant an oddity, is how its flowers, as shown in the pic, FORM ON TOP OF THE LEAVES. Anybody else growing this broad-leaved evergreen?

Last month, I mentioned that I had planted som cool-season veggies, in the garden. Even though the temp dipped to 27F, soon after they went into the ground, they were unfazed. In the pic are lettuce, Chinese cabbage, Swiss chard, and some carrots sown when "oak leaves were the size of a mouse's ear" (a bit of lore from Farmer's Almanac)...
