I just read Kris's take on the giant palm seed of the Coco de Mer and really didn't realize its story and such an interesting palm tree if not one of the most unusual.
There was once a palm grower from Northern Denmark that grew Trachycarpus that posted here and Im sure it was over 20 years ago. He reported his palm had seen many cold temps and continued to do great but one night a cold storm was blowing in and he thought since it had survived for several years it would be fine. He said in the days ahead the palm had expired but it was interesting to hear of Trachycarpus surviving in Scandinavia or close proximity.
The sea rise has been noticed on several islands in the Pacific. The most vulnerable to this rising sea levels include nations such as Kiribati, Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands. These low-lying nations, often no more than a few meters above sea level, are alarmingly at the forefront of this crisis, from what I've read recently. I do hope steps are taken to keep the Coco de Mer alive.
Thank you Fred.
