There is a male variety, Edward Stevens (her husband, lol?) Holly, that would pollinate Nellie. An Oakleaf Holly (a hybrid holly, in which Nellie is a parent of) is also said to be a good consort for her.
I'm thinking that once the Longleaf gets above the roof, that it will spread its branches out more. I guess you planted it closer to the house, as a means of protection. It would likely have been hardy in the open yard. Apparently, Longleafs are hardy outside of the South.
