Every winter is different, in one way or another. I think you reported something like -12F, on your thermometer, last year. Maybe, this year's "strong el Nino", translates to a milder winter, for you.
A winter that seemed to have started out milder for me, has turned out to be a regular z6b winter for me, so far.
