I ended up going to Target after work yesterday. I got 2 camping lanterns and 2 battery fans, 1 small and 1 a 10". The 10" takes 4 D batteries so now I need to get D batteries next. I still have an Amazon gift card from Christmas so I'll use that to buy some. And I finally got the low-down on battery backups for landlines. I called the repair department at Verizon as the company that I have my landline with piggybacks off of Verizon and the tech person said that it's just a regular 12 volt battery backup and that I can get one at Home Depot. And she also explained how the 1 hour backup time works. If I were to talk to somebody for 1 hour straight then the battery would be drained. But if you don't talk to anybody but for a small amount of time then the battery stays charged. But the peace of mind knowing that at any point in the proceedings I could use my landline is worth the cost to buy one. I wonder if you had a second one and you charged it and switched to that one when the first battery drained if that would work so you'd have an additional hour.
