Butia inflorescence :

I only had one inflorescence this year but I had 3 last year ? Does that seem normal ?

I have two large Butias that usually flower. This year, one is and the other is not. However, both are fine and pushing out green fronds. I guess they sometimes take a year off, and sometimes they send up different numbers of them.

My Sabal Brazoria, which isn't trunking yet, is pushing one shirt inflorescence. Hopefully I will get a handful of seeds off it.

I’ve found the amount of fruit and seed production on butias can be heavily influenced by fertilization. You can get 5-10x the amount of inflorescences with 13-13-13 three times a year. I don’t tend to like to do this as I think a high nitrogen fertilizer leads to a much more attractive palm, but probably a less cold and pest resistant one also

I planned on fertilizing it this spring and summer but haven't .

That inflorescence didn't produce any edible fruit , but just a hard seed looking fruit that had no color to it , but stayed green ?
