I have been down to 20F a week ago , and I thought the fronds would be totally bronzed by now but some are fairly green . I also had a wet snow that messed up its appearance . I'll add a snow and ice picture probably Monday morning from this next system . I'm supposed to get 3-6" of mix . Hopefully the total will be more at 3" than 6" , and I hope it's mainly sleet which bounces off fronds . That 20F seems to have damaged the newest growth worse , while the 24F damaged the older fronds and didn't damage the newest growth much . So the oldest and newest are the least hardy and the fronds more in the middle have hung in there better .
Ain't she perty ? Actually , I had a 20F on November 13th a couple of years ago that bronzed it totally really fast , so maybe the cold it's been through up to this point has hardened it off so that that 20F does less damage in January than that 20F in November . That makes sense . Still it looked decent a couple of weeks ago before that 20F and that snow a little while back . .
Added protection today since I'm seeing Low forecasts between 13F to 19F over the next week , so better safe than sorry . I'm pretty sure it's trunk hardy to 15F . It's just Xmas lights wrapped around and down the trunk about 2" between wraps and 1 layer of blankets around them . Then I mulch at the bottom of the trunk to keep air out . The top is slightly open to allow for growth when it gets milder . Will

I hope your Washingtonia Robusta was able to get through the winter. A favorite of mine for so many years. It's been the most beautiful inland Washingtonia Robusta I've ever seen. I grew them for years but one cold icy night the covering blew away so I know its not easy growing them in my climate. (z7a) Thanks.part of the community for 25 years

Thanks Rob . It was a false alarm because I never got that cold. My lowest Low was 16F but I was worried when I saw forecasts all over the place from 12F to 19F . Congratulations Will. The protection was just what it needed for the insane weather we have had in the past. It throws out those fronds like a giant and cant wait to see it later one. Thanks.part of the community for 25 years

A week ago picture . I put a hat over the spear area when we put on the protection , and in the picture the hat is getting slowly pushed up , and it finally blew way . I still haven't found the hat yet LOL. .
Today 3/28/2022 . I wanted to take off the protection but the guys with the ladder won't show up . .
