I got about an inch , and if I'm going to get a snow , this is the kind I like to see 🌴 :
.
.You can see how good of a microclimate this is because not only does it stay warmer there , but the eave of the house keeps the crown dry :
.
I know it's been mild because of all the trees and other plants that are flowering as I mentioned in my previous post , but one of the biggest ways I know is by how little banana trunk dieback there is .
Here's my Ensete maurreli with plenty of healthy solid tissue on it . Most winters it would be lying flat on the ground .
.
Here are some Musa basjoos that have about 8' of live tissue on the trunks . On the left is my biggest Sabal birmingham and on the right is that Musa :
.
The most surprising Banana for me this year is my Mekong Giants which have always been totally burnt to the ground every previous winter and usually come back from rhizomes and not trunk at all . Not pretty but those trunks are solid . I'll clean them up soon :
.
More Mekongs in the front yard . The Mekongs should be huge this summer because of the head start they will have over previous years when they had to come up from rhizomes . This year they will just start adding on leaves and height immediately :
.
Another sign is that the petioles on my Washy and a little bit of the fronds near the petioles are still green , and there is one green frond growing out from the center also .
.
I hope nothing weird happens from now till early March .
