Sad news

Some of you may remember Alex that used to post here. I saw a Facebook post from Phil who also used to post here that Alex has passed away suddenly. Alex was from the Atlanta area and was a very knowledgeable and kind fellow in my years of interaction with him on this board and the botanical world has lost a good friend. I just thought some of you may want to know.

I do. Nice guy who would do plant hunts with Phil,even gave him a rare gem like Ficus roxburghii.

I always liked his insights on plants posted on the board . I always looked forward to opening his messages pertaining to my plants .

Terrible news... I never met him in person but always liked his postings here and appreciated his advice...human life is so fragile..

He still was posting here. He posted on 11/14 down below on Will's post. I remember when he arrived on this board back in the day. I had just gotten a friend request from him so I'm sure this was unexpected. Praying for his family.

I guess we're talking about Alex Wolcott.

Tremendous presence on the board, more so in years gone by.

I think one of his biggest plant triumphs was doing well with Phoenix Canariensis in Atlanta. That's usually a Zone 9 tree. But he was able to get some good size on his in Atlanta despite the winters there.

I was under the impression that he was not a very old man.

Gosh, such a shame, this news. I'll never forget him.

Such terrible news. He loved life and family.
Heartwarming to read his passions.
I once took Alex a 5 foot long box stuffed with surprise lilies but I couldn't reach him when I got to Atlanta several years ago.
Prayers continue for his family during this tragic transition. Thanks for sharing friends.

Condolences to his friends and family. I remember seeing a post from him just about a month ago. Alex will be missed by many. His wealth of knowledge will live on in memories and postings.

Alex was perennially a knowledgeable, insightful and constructive poster. Really enjoyed learning more of his body of work in his obit, sadly. He will be sorely missed.
