That Thailand Giant will be really big in another month .
I don't know the name of that plant . It volunteered where it is growing , and it is some type of perennial . The leaves looked nice so I've left it . Some people might call it a weed but since it's not invasive I'll leave it , and another one in the backyard .

Everything looks nice Will. Theres two big Rostratas that must be 12ft tall at a restraunt near my area.

Man that TG is sweet!

The leaves are in great shape and are already huge...

Maybe leave the YR stalk or at least the last few inches of the base
until the plant seals it off and it drops on its own...garden looks nice!

I always lop off the spent flower stalks from my Filamentosas and Recurvifolias with no ill effects. The yuccas just keep doing their thing as if nothing happened. I have the aforementioned species as well as a couple of smaller Rostratas. I've been MOST FORTUNATE in having no trouble whatsoever from yucca bugs or any other pests or diseases that affect yuccas. The only maintenance I perform on them is a late fall trim of dead leaves and an early spring follow-up trimming off of leaves that the winter takes out.

I can't do much with them in the summer due to the mosquitoes, which really are a misery here since all the weather knows how to do is rain.

That's what Climate Change means to me. Not more heat. Not more cold. Just rain, rain, rain. Five days straight without rain? Impossible now. I guess it's better than droughts, but there is a price to pay for it.

I'll go out and cut that stalk off .
I could use a little of your rain . I haven't had any here in weeks .
I left the dead older leaves on the Rostrata in the front yard . It looks nicely tucked up against the trunk . I hope some of those leaves will start rotting off over time and give the plant a more palmy look .

My guess is my region must be in the corridor of where the Southeast summer "perma-heat" meets the less severe Canadian air. Where systems meet, it usually rains.

This weekend coming up, I think we're all in the frying pan. I'm seeing some scorchers for the Friday through Monday timetable. Very high dewpoints as well, so maybe this will fire off some late afternoon storms that might at least cool things off a tad.

Friday night/Saturday morning, the low is forecast at 80F. Since I've lived here (July of 1995), I don't think we've had more than 5 daily lows 80F or warmer. I think 82F was our worst. And that is MISERABLE WEATHER. You leave for work at 7:00 AM and it's already HOT. Not a hint of coolness.

Congress should make such weather illegal.

There are a few Trachys around , but I haven't seen any Med Fans or Butias .
My Washy may be the tallest palm in Winston-Salem . If not the tallest this year , it will be the tallest in a few years . Should be fun to protect the trunk since it grows several feet per year lol . Gotta cherry picker ?

Your yard is so palmy! The thailand giant is definitely living up to it's name and it's probably not even halfway finished with growing for the season. I can't wait to see it in the fall. I love the rostratas and the pindos look amazing too.

Just yesterday a nice T'Storm was heading my way from the mountains and sure enough it just started evaporating . Some counties near me got some decent rain but not here . This dry pattern should end with some 80'sF coming up in a few days . Chances for rain is going to go way up . Too late for my grass .
