Impossible March weather !

How crazy was this ?
I remember , and what was so strange was how cold it was the next day . You'd think that if there was snow that time of year the next day would be a melting day .
I know some here remember how insane it was . Does anybody have a story about that storm ?
I didn't grow the kinds of plants I grow now back then . I wonder how the subtropicals did after that storm ?

What a very cool report! I remember being annoyed as a child that we only got 3.5 inches. We were just a little too far west from the heavy snow. My dad was on business in Panama City and took lots of pictures of snow for me in Birmingham.

5-10" was so surreal ?

I get it friend, officially we only got 7" (and Im 105 miles ENE of Tommy but we had snow drifts everywhere that ranged from 3' to 15'
Where did all that blowing snow come from?
A lot of it was the uplift into the higher elevations east of Nashville and north of Georgia. I remember people here said you could spot an area with no snow and right next to it 5' snow drifts.
The 25 anniversary (?) was recently and I remember reading about it in the local paper. The National Guard came in to dig people out and they got stuck in the 15' snow drifts.Some people were stranded for two weeks. Snow layed on the ground here for over a month after that March Storm. It happened 8 years after the coldest temps that have ever been recorded in Tennessee. It was -25f here and Magnolia Grandiflora trees burst and native plants died out. A bad time in weather history. The very next year after the storm of the century was a devastating Ice Storm that left people here without electricity for almost 3 weeks.

Rob,

Our lowest temperature during March 12-14, 1993, the Superstorm, was 19F. I finally read an article today and the snow total was lower than I thought. We only got 2.8 inches. They said there was a drastic difference heading east to the plateau and then even more going east to the mountains! Near Gatlinburg got 60 inches! That's when our Southeastern mountains look like the Rockies.

I found this page that has Nashville lows for each year. It doesn't go back far but this is a 20 year average of 10F or 8a.
