Of the last 3 winters, I think the worst was a December 2022 event where we got down to 8F. This year, the worst was 11F. So, everything went into spring still carrying over all their 2023 (and even older) growth.
I really began my marginals garden in 2007. To think of all my stuff, the only palm in my yard that I lost was a Sabal Palmetto around 2012. It had Bald Head Island lineage too! Another palmetto that I planted in 2008 STILL SURVIVES. Haven't protected it at all the last 6 or 7 years. I'm basically daring it to die. Planted just off my south-facing back yard porch.
So much of my gardening fun began here, but to see this place today, no one would believe it.
