But the stem , right down to the ground must also be protected .
Some use heating tapes , for water pipes , that have a a thermostat that comes on at a pre set Temp. Then wrap over the tape , BUT you must leave a little space between the tape and the stem of the palm .
Otherwise might over heat , and damage the palm .
In a windy freeze this will work way better than trying to save the palm with sheets , or other wraps , because it can keep the wind out .
It's a tricky thing overall , and growing palms that are too tender will always create problems .
The actual location of the palm is ultra important . South side of a wall , or wherever will shed the worst of the wind is the key .
When palms became too tall , it's all over if a BIG ONE comes .
