My first suggestion is to spend some time in Florida before you commit. Some people love it and others soon move away. For example, in Georgia we have a group we call "half backs". They are people from northern states who retire to Florida, and then move half way back north due not liking the Florida climate.
Southeast Florida basically has nine months with a great climate, but June, July, and August are almost unbearable during the day. However, most summer nights are pleasant due to a breeze blowing in off the water. In fact the nights seem more moderate than in inland Georgia. People seem to pour out of houses as soon as the sun sets in summer.
Try to locate on the waterfront or near the water. The breeze from the water moderates the heat in summer, and a breeze from the east warms the area in the winter due to the area being close to the gulf stream.
Living in the freeze free tropics may be well worth the negative factors. For example, the temperature is currently 72 degrees with a 54% humidity. Where else in the country could you find any better weather today?
