The only protection I give them is lots of mulch, a crude windbreak, and I bind up the fronds tightly with Ace bandages. To the last point, I also do this for my Needles as well. I find it's extremely effective in protecting the palms from structural damage brought on by snow load on the fronds. No more broken petioles. It also may provide extra wind protection, in tandem with the wind break. But otherwise, my minors are not in any shelters or anything with a roof on it. Some years, they really get let up. This past year wasn't really a winter at all. I saw no damage.
