What should I do about the hollow part the extends about 3" downward? 2 yrs ago it bloomed for the first time and there were 6 heads. Last yr the center head died and left the hollow area. I removed 3 of the heads and will stick them in the ground after they dry for a few days.
My mistake was not cutting off the inflorescence as soon as I saw it.
For now the opening is about 4 ft above the ground and is covered with plastic bags to keep it dry. I plan to spray on fungicide and fill it with silicone caulking and make a convex top to shed rainwater. I can replace with a smaller silicone filling if the trunk heals and makes the hollow part smaller...at least I will hope that happens.
