While we think of daffodils as "bulb" plants, they flower. And from the flowers, seeds are produced. I assume the seeds are viable. So, my theory is YOUR daffodil(s) may be in Year 1 of its/their life/lives. My theory holds that the seed germinates, and as the plant grows, below the soil, a bulb begins to form. From Year 2 on out, the daffodil comes up from the bulb. Under ground, bulbs do multiply into "offsets", and it's typically these that provide the material for the bulbs we see in garden and hardware stores every fall. I suppose there's not much of a market for daffodil seeds. It may also be that the seeds are less reliable than the bulbs.
But what do I know? I'm a palm tree guy.
