I would leave one with a skirt but leave the rest. I'm guessing with your area's potential for winter cold, combined with heat and humidity, they would grow too fast for them to look like what you want them to. I would hazard a guess that the full skirted trachy pics you see are in the PNW or other cool temperate climates.
