We have some big ones here and they are relatively common, although not weedy. Not sure when they were planted, but I would hand it difficult to imagine them being marginal there. Your climate is considerably milder than ours. Our only seem to struggle when young and establishing, such as mine last year. Even in the vortex years, mature mimosas only experienced minimal tip dieback here. I hope our winters don't continue to get colder as we have been on a downhill spiral the past 6 years or so.
