Re: More on growing Mangoes in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Pittsburgh is much warmer in summer then Hayward..its got that rare combo of valley heat in summer and relief from cold because of the bay and delta.
When I looked it up,I was kinda shocked that lows in Pittsburg in winter are almost 5to 6 degrees warmer then mine-47f and 48f,to my 42 for Dec-Jan. Because you go just a little bit inland to Concord ca and the average winter low is 38f..and they get plenty of frosts and 20's every year.
I also found another Mango tree in Hayward and I'm sure there are plenty more starting to pop up over fences in the years to come.
The last big killing freeze was 26 years ago. Even 2007 wasnt near that.
