I added two articles, one from 2004 and the other from 2018.
I started another thread in this board regarding the Hernani title, and my only concern was the eventual succession of the title after Infanta Margarita's and her children's deaths.
I thought Infanta Margarita had received the Soria title at the time of her marriage (like Infanta Pilar received the Badajoz title) and Manuel pointed out that the title was conferred much later.
The Infanta got married in 1972 and only became Duchess of Soria in 1981, two years after the death of the former Duke of Hernani, and the alledged passing of the that title to her.
Manuel also mentioned that the Hernani title was disputed by other possible heirs.
That started my curiosity about the claims of these heirs and that's how I came across the whole scam involving the paintings theft.
So, no new story discovered these days.
As to the "statute of limitations" you refer, in Portugal it is called "Prescrição" and I believe in spanish would be "Prescriptión".
There are several deadlines for "Prescrição" to operate and, once the deadlines are over, one cannot start a legal action, may the claim be a criminal one or a civil one.
Under the portuguese law, there are some legal ways to break or interrupt Prescrição f.i. a "Notificação Judicial Avulsa" - a "Separate judicial Notice".
I have no idea of the spanish deadlines for "Prescription" to be declared, and whether the legal ways to break or interrupt it were ever taken by the duke's presumptive heirs.
AFAIK, JC has bought a villa in Cascais but he did not move from the Emirates yet.
According to El Nacional, who claims its sources are close to Casa Real, the house costed c. € 4,5 million and is being adapted to the king's handicaps.
