Leonor’s future husband will be titled Prince of Asturias if she marries as PoA. When she becomes Queen , he will be titled Prince N. But he could be created King consort, as Queen Isabel II did with her husband. The title of King consort is not automatic, like Queen consort. It is automatic for noble titles, but not for royal ones.
BTW, Francisco of Asis was Infante of Spain before marrying. He was also Duke of Cadiz, but the title never used after being created Infante in 1823.
He will never receive a ducal title. Makes no sense. That’s Britain, not Spain. Previous Message
My questions are just these: in Spanish royal custom that exists to the present-day, what would be the appropriate title and style for the husband of a reigning Spanish queen? Of course, referring in the distant future to the current Princess of Asturias and when she becomes the monarch. If she was married when she ascends the Spanish throne, will that gentleman be styled as "King consort"? Or some lesser title? I tried to research this a little by looking at the past history of the last reigning female monarch, being Isabella II, but in the case of her marriage it was to a husband who was already a duke in his own right - so their history doesn't provide me with an answer to my question about the future of Leonor, especially if her husband might have no title at all and be just "Senor" when they meet some day. If in fact, the rule and custom in Spain is that the man in a marriage is automatically elevated to the same level of title as his wife, then wouldn't Leonor's future spouse be "Prince of Asturias" if she is still "Princess" when they meet? Or, as I also asked, even "King Consort" when she becomes reigning Queen? Of course, another option might be that the present King grant his new son-in-law an entirely separte courtesy ducal title. But any insights on all this is appreciated.
