I've now finished episode 2 of 3 and also read the Tatler article, which arrived in mailbox today. I am actually impressed by how balanced the documentary seems. Yes, it takes the view that the Prince got away with murder (or what in the US would be considered manslaughter, although I don't think that exists in French law?), but VE and EF, and Marina via voiceover are given extensive opportunity to put their point of view. I would say - and I have one more episode to go - that the Prince of Naples comes across as a rather sad, even tragic, figure who committed a horrible crime and pulled lots of strings to cover it up, rather than an evil one.

In the magazine article, Ms. Casiraghi claims that this documentary was an effort on her part to ease some of the obsessive anger she has felt since childhood and is not an act of vengeance. In an follow-up online article from the same magazine, which I link below, the younger Prince is quoted as saying he thought she was mostly fair even though he disagreed with a couple of things. (Presumably the fact that his father killed a man first among them!)

Apparently the Prince of Venice has attacked Ms. Casiraghi on Twitter, although I haven't seen the thread. He and his father both appear extensively as interview subjects throughout the docuseries, so I wonder if they were perhaps under the impression that they would get more favorable treatment since the filmmaker is "one of us" so to speak. If so, they were very mistaken, and I could see why Prince EF would be upset.

It might also have been said, or at the very least implied, that the Crown Prince and his son could refuse to be interviewed but that the documentary would go ahead anyway without any counterpoints or views they might otherwise want out there… Perhaps a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” kind of scenario. I don’t envy them.
