In yesterday’s letter to his son King Felipe, Juan Carlos said he planned to begin making frequent visits home to meet friends and family and did not rule out a move back to Spain in the future. Abu Dhabi will continue to be, for the moment, his permanent residence.

In case of a potential return to Spain, his aim is to organize his personal life and place of residence privately so he can continue enjoying the greatest possible privacy.

He is aware of the importance for public opinion of the past events of his private life which he sincerely regrets, and at the same time, he feels a legitimate pride in his contribution to democratic coexistence and freedoms in Spain.
