In 1640, around 40 aristocrats got together in full secrecy and plotted to reverse the government, presided by the vice-regina Margarita of Savoy, dowager duchess of Mantova in name of Felipe IV.

The last meeting, on Nov.30th, took place in the palace of D.Antão de Almada, 7th count of Avranches, today known as Palace of Independence.
