Re: Infante Carlos Marķa Isidro of Spain (1788-1855)
No. No possibility. In the end, it was not only about rights, but about the kind of monarchy: liberal vs. absolutist.
And that point also explains the supports. In summary: parliamentary monarchies supported Isabel II and absolutist ones the carlists. Austria changed when Archduchess Maria Cristina became Queen of Spain.
I know that he never acknowledged his niece, Isabel II, as queen regnant. But did he honestly expect her or her mother to acknowledge him as the rightful king?
And just what side did the rest of royal Europe take in the Spanish succession dispute, anyway? I know that some of his Parmesan and Sicilian cousins fought on his side in the Carlist wars. But what about the other great powers?
