Obviously Elena will have weighed up the risks and at the end of the day it is her decision and none of my business. But on a forum that asks for opinions my opinion is it is very risky to travel from Spain to the Gulf during a pandemic and then have contact with someone who is old and frail. She could have had a negative test the morning she set off but could then have had contact with someone on route who could have passed on the virus to her which could then be passed on to her father during her stay. I cannot speak for countries she passed through but advice in UK is for vulnerable people not to receive visits from outside their household. If Juan Carlos is dying then of course I would understand her need to be with him but for all we know he has poor mobility and is frail but may have years left. In which case I don't understand Elena taking that risk at the moment when this virus is near its peak. Anyone who knows anything about infection control - and I happen to as part of my job within Critical Care medicine- would advise against such a visit at this time.

No matter what we may think of Infanta Elena's brightness, I am sure she weighed that possiibility and was well advised.
She might have been tested before flying to the Gulf.
An extremely sensible person as she is, she would be appalled if she would have in any way played any role in weakening the king's health condition.
And surely she would be mortified if, given the king's health condition, she would not have been with him one last time if he will not last long, in this special day, when he was far from all the family (no matter the reasons).
I guess Elena is the most Borbon of the family and for her, blood is thicker than any possible feud.
Despite the disappointment JC had that his firstborn was not a male, he was always very close to Elena and vice-versa.
If Felipe was always Mummy's little boy, Elena was Daddy's little girl.
